A five-member crew from the Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHEC) has headed west to assist the Union Power Cooperative of Monroe, N.C. with recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene caused massive damage to the western part of the state.
The crew includes linemen Tyler Scarborough, Robbie Easley, Jonathan Vernesoni, Justin Waterfield, and Brayan Garcia. “This crew is [is helping] with restoration efforts after Hurricane Helene heavily damaged their system,” said Laura Ertle, CHEC Director of Public Relations & Marketing. “CHEC is sending two bucket trucks, four linemen, a crew supervisor, and a pickup truck [to assist.]
“Cooperation among cooperatives is one of our founding cooperative principles and it’s wonderful to be on the ‘giving’ side of mutual aid.”
