Strong southwest winds are expected on Wednesday ahead of a cold front that will move through the Outer Banks area on Wednesday night, per a Feb. 27 update from the National Weather Service.

A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for the Outer Banks with inundation of 1-2 feet above ground level currently forecast for soundside areas along the Albemarle, Croatan, Roanoke, and Pamlico Sounds, and adjacent tidal creeks. Localized ocean overwash is also possible, especially on northern Ocracoke Island.

A Wind Advisory has also been issued for all of eastern North Carolina with gusts up to 45-50 mph expected.

The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 1:00 p.m. Wednesday until 4:00 a.m. Thursday, while the Wind Advisory is in effect from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until 1:00 a.m. Thursday.

A Gale Warning has also been issued for all area waterways
