A Coastal Flood Advisory, Wind Advisory, and High Surf Advisory have been issued for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands due to an approaching low pressure system that is expected to pass off the North Carolina coast on Monday night and Tuesday.
Ocean overwash, rough surf, and minor beach erosion are likely, with 1-2 feet of above-ground flooding possible, especially in vulnerable areas with compromised dunes. The greatest risk for flooding impacts will be along oceanside areas from Oregon Inlet to Cape Lookout, and N.C. Highway 12 and Ocracoke Island ferry service may be impacted.
Minor water level rises will also be possible for areas adjacent to the southern Pamlico Sound, as well as the Neuse, Bay, and Pamlico Rivers.
Gusty winds of 40-50 mph are forecast along the immediate coast, with the strongest winds occurring on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.
Dangerous marine conditions with gale-force winds and hazardous seas are also expected for the coastal waters from Oregon Inlet to Surf City, starting on Monday afternoon.
