A Coastal Flood Warning has been issued for Hatteras Island and the northern Outer Banks due to a period of gale-force southwesterly winds which is expected to bring soundside flooding starting late Monday night, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.

Minor to moderate coastal flooding is possible for soundside locations from the northern Outer Banks southward to Frisco. Soundside inundation of 2-3 ft. is forecast, with locally higher amounts up to 4 ft. possible, especially from Oregon Inlet to Frisco.

The greatest impacts are expected to occur on Tuesday afternoon.

Minor coastal flooding 1-2 feet above ground level is also expected for soundside areas near Hatteras from late Monday night through Tuesday.

Additionally, wind gusts of 45-50 mph are likely along the coast, and widespread 2-3″ of rainfall is expected, but a flash flood threat remains negligible.
