The Ocracoke Preservation Society will host a special community event, An Evening at the Commons, featuring a “Ghost Talk” with Amy Howard and David Tweedie on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Island Inn Commons.
The free event is held in appreciation of the community’s continued support for the Island Inn and Commons project. Seating and parking are limited, and a rain date is set for Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Built in 1903 as an Odd Fellows Lodge, the historic Island Inn has been undergoing restoration since OPS purchased it in 2018 to preserve the landmark for community use. The surrounding Commons area at the corner of Irvin Garrish Highway and Lighthouse Road has since been transformed into a public green space, with ongoing improvements made possible through local donations and volunteer efforts.
The evening’s program promises a lively blend of history, folklore, and island storytelling — a fitting celebration of Ocracoke’s enduring spirit and the community that keeps it thriving.
