The Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CHNS) recently awarded a $1.7 million contract to Yorkshire Industries of New York, New York to remove the top layer of asphalt, regrade and apply a new layer of asphalt in the approximately 195,650 square foot parking lot at CHNS’ Oregon Inlet Marina. The resurfaced parking lot will be elevated to address flooding issues, and the parking lot striping and drainage system will also be repaired.

Upcoming closures due to the five-month paving project:

  • The road-based fueling station will be closed for roughly 45 days, starting Nov. 4, 2024.
  • Access to the public kayak launch will be closed for approximately 60 days, starting Dec. 9, 2024.
  • Access to the Oregon Inlet Campground’s RV dump station will be closed for approximately 60 days, starting Dec. 9, 2024. Campers should make other arrangements during this time.

Access to water-based marina charters, the future air station, the public boat ramps and Oregon Inlet Fishing Center’s replacement facility, restaurant and tackle shop, are not expected to be impacted by the paving project.

The project is expected to be completed by March 31, 2025.
