Currituck County Fire-Emergency Medical Services has recognized a resident of Knotts Island for her bravery and action in helping boaters in distress.

On May 9, 2021 at 8:50 p.m., Station 8 in Knotts Island received a call regarding a boat in distress with five people on board, according to a press release from Currituck Fire-EMS. Reports from the 911 Communications Center indicated that the boat had been swamped by waves and the people on board were attempting to make it to shore.
