The recent plunge in temperatures has led to dozens of cold-stunned sea turtles being washed ashore along the Outer Banks.

Currently, the STAR Center sea turtle hospital at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is caring for over 100 turtles, and they are in need of supplies.

You can help these sick and injured sea turtles by donating to the North Carolina Aquarium Society (use code: SEATURTLES2024), becoming a Sea Turtle STAR, or purchasing items from the Aquarium’s Amazon Wishlist.

If you’re in the area, the STAR Center is also taking in-person donations of hard plastic kiddie pools and 10-gallon tote containers (18″L x 12″W x 8.5″H).

As The Island Free Press has previously reported, when temperatures on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands drop in the winter months, cold-stunned sea turtles begin to make an appearance along the soundside beaches.
