NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY) – A driver in Nags Head is facing several charges after police said they drove on the beach without a permit while under the influence.

According to officials, the driver was charged with DUI, concealed weapons violation, open container and local ordinance for not having a beach driving permit. Police shared photos of the driver’s vehicle, showing it seemingly stuck near a pedestrian walkway on Governor Street.

While beach driving remains open for certain accesses through April 30, drivers need a valid Nags Head Beach Permit, which can be purchased for $50 at Nags Head Town Hall. Only the following accesses are open for vehicular use: Conch Street, Enterprise Street, Forrest Street, Gulfstream Street, Juncos Street.
