Each Friday throughout the year, interested people gather in the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge parking lot to participate in a casual, free hour-and-a-half bird walk.
It was reported that 34 species of birds were seen during a recent tour – that’s seeing a different species around every three minutes!
Some recently returned migratory birds are American white pelican, as seen here. They are much larger than the brown pelicans seen year ’round in the area.
Short-billed dowitchers and the first northern shoveler duck have also been spotted.
Birders and nature lovers of all levels of identification skill levels are welcome
