A Heat Advisory is in effect on Thursday along the Outer Banks and throughout Eastern North Carolina, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.

The Heat Advisory has been issued for all of Eastern N.C., including Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, for heat index values of up to 105 degrees from noon until 7 p.m. Actual temperatures will be in the 80-90 degree range.

The intense heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Information on the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke is listed below.
