A cold front moving through Eastern North Carolina on Sunday afternoon through Monday morning will bring elevated surf, wind gusts, and thunderstorms to the Outer Banks, per an update from the National Weather Service.

A High Surf Advisory has been issued for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands from 4:00 p.m. Sunday until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, with large breaking waves of 5-9 feet expected in the surf zone.

Localized beach erosion and ocean overwash is possible in vulnerable areas with compromised dune lines. N.C. Highway 12 may be impacted.

Thunderstorms are possible from late afternoon Sunday until the early morning hours of Monday. Storms may be capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and a brief but weak tornado.

Offshore, gale-force winds and waves of 6-11 feet are forecast, and a Small Craft Advisory is also in effect starting at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
