At the Labor Day Cape Hatteras Lighthouse 5K Race, 125 runners and walkers ran and walked a course starting close to the old Lighthouse location out to Loran Road and back again.
The lighthouse surrounded by scaffolding was uniquely situated to be pictured at the start and the finish of the race and walk.
The race started early in the morning, after a brief sprinkle. The sun rose behind dunes to paint the sky filled with clouds.
Nearly 35 volunteers showed up, some at 5:30 in the morning to set up tents and route signs. Others showed up around 6:30
