A low pressure system will bring some much-needed rain and the potential for coastal impacts along the Outer Banks on Friday, November 15, according to an update from the National Weather Service.
The low will move through eastern North Carolina on Thursday night and rapidly strengthen as it moves offshore on Friday, bringing a dramatic increase in north to northeast winds. This quick switch in wind direction and speed, along with a coinciding high astronomical King tide event, could bring significant impacts, including both oceanside and soundside coastal flooding, beach erosion, high surf, and ocean overwash.
1-3 inches of rain is also expected from Thursday into Friday, and peak wind gusts of 55 mph are currently forecast for Friday on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.
