A strong low pressure system will pass off the North Carolina coast on Monday night and Tuesday, bringing gusty winds and the possibility of minor coastal flooding, according to an update from the National Weather Service (NWS).
Ocean overwash, rough surf, and minor beach erosion are possible, and especially in vulnerable areas with compromised dunes. The greatest risk for impacts will be along oceanside areas from Oregon Inlet to Cape Lookout.
Minor water level rises will also be possible for areas adjacent to the southern Pamlico Sound, as well as the Neuse, Bay, and Pamlico Rivers.
Gusty winds of 30-40 mph are also forecast along the immediate coast, with the strongest winds occurring on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.
Dangerous marine conditions with gale-force winds and hazardous seas are expected for the coastal waters from Oregon Inlet to Surf City, starting on Monday afternoon.
