The North Carolina Beach Buggy Association (NCBBA) is coming up on its fourth and final Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) of 2023 on Saturday, November 18.

“With the tourism season coming to a close, this roadside cleanup event is one of the busiest of the year,” stated Tom Brueckner, NCBBA Director, in a press release. “We always have our ‘faithful’ volunteers from past AAHs, but we need new people to join our group. AAH is one of NCBBA’s signature events of the year and is well-published in our quarterly newsletter and our Facebook page. However, you do not need to be a member to join our AAH volunteer group.”

For over 30 years, the NCBBA has been supporting North Carolina’s Adopt-A-Highway program. The area of trash pickup coverage begins on the south end of the Marc Basnight Bridge and goes three miles north on N.C. Highway 12, along both sides of the highway.

The event begins at the ORV Ramp 4 parking lot at 7:30 a.m. where volunteers are given instructions on what area of Highway 12 they will be walking. NCBBA will be distributing reflective vests, grabbers, gloves (or bring your own), and garbage bags. Dress appropriately for the weather and boots are recommended. “We like to pair up and give everyone a maximum of a .5-mile stretch of road. You may leave the full-tied garbage bags on the roadside grass for the NCDOT to pick up afterward,” stated Brueckner.

Please reply to Director Tom Brueckner at tom.brueckner@ncbba.org or phone/message at 973-714-9940 if you are available for this fall AAH event. All children between the ages of 12 to17 will need a “Youth Participation Release Form” signed by a parent.

“So come on out and get in some great exercise and enjoy the fall weather,” stated Brueckner. “This is our opportunity to show the public and our members what the NCBBA is all about – Keep it clean!”
