HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Henry County Sheriff’s Office says an attempted traffic stop led to a chase when the driver of an SUV failed to stop Saturday.
It happened on Axton Road in Henry County. Deputies say 40-year-old Gary Wayne Tilley Jr., of Eden North Carolina, fled the scene despite the sirens and emergency lights.
The chase continued down into Eden North Carolina.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T. Maneuver) to stop the vehicle.
During the P.I.T maneuver, the driver autocorrected when he tried to avoid, causing him to spin out and the vehicle to flip onto the roof.
No one was injured and both the suspect and his female passenger were checked out by EMS on the scene.
According to a further investigation, the driver has an outstanding arrest warrant in North Carolina.
He was taken into custody and is being charged with Felony Eluding Police along with being served with an outstanding warrant for misdemeanor larceny.
Mr. Tilley is awaiting extradition in the Rockingham County Adult Detention Center.
