The events of Sept. 11, 2001 were remembered in communities around Dare County today. The Kitty Hawk Police Department helped organize a March to Remember that began at EMS Station 1 and ended at the Wright Brothers Monument in Kill Devil before returning back. In Duck, a walk from the Public Safety Building to Town Hall and back again was led by the town’s police chief and several deputy chiefs. Hatteras Island volunteer firefighters, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard walked from the Buxton Fire Station to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to honor those who gave their lives 22 years ago.
