Three bears – a sow and two cubs – stroll down a clearing on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Waterfowl, deer and black bears are three leading reasons people visit the refuge. The black bear is the only bear species found on the refuge and in North Carolina, states USFWS.

Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is one of nine national wildlife refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Complex.
