A special “You are Not Alone” Town Hall event will be held on Jan. 11 at St. John United Methodist Church in Avon at 5:00 p.m. for residents who are suffering with a Substance Use Disorder, or who know someone who is struggling. The Town Hall, sponsored by the Saving Lives Task Force, will feature a number of resources available locally for people in need of help.
“If you or a loved one know someone who is struggling with addiction, don’t suffer alone,” St. John UMC Rev. Gina Miller said. Miller added that Dare County has many resources for those in need and encourages residents to mark their calendars for this important event. “Please join us for an informative meeting, you might just save a life – and all lives are of sacred worth.”
The event will begin with a free dinner provided by St. John’s UMC from 5 to 6:15, during which time vendors from local organizations will be on hand with resources, information, and brochures related to Substance Use Disorder and treatment. The Town Hall will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Dare County Board of Commissioners Vice Chair and Saving Lives Task Force Co-Chair Wally Overman will offer welcoming remarks, followed by a number of speakers who will provide valuable information about the local resources. Organizations represented at the Town Hall include the Dare County Health & Human Services’ Recovery Overdose Support Services, Nar-Anon, Integrated Family Services’ Mobile Crisis Team, Changing Tides treatment center, PORT Health, Crossroads OBX, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Recovery Court as well as overview of the Community Resiliency Model.
“This event brings together the many outstanding resources that are available in Dare County, and we hope that the community comes out to learn more about Substance Use Disorder and the many organizations that are here to help those who are struggling,” concluded Saving Lives Task Force Co-Chair Roxana Ballinger.
