RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — An armed suspect was shot Sunday night during an attempted carjacking at a motel near Crabtree Valley Mall off Glenwood Avenue at Interstate 440, police said.

The shooting was reported just after 8:50 p.m. along Arrow Road at the Red Roof Inn, according to the Raleigh Police Department.

The incident involved a man whose car was in the Red Roof Inn parking lot, police said. A 17-year-old boy with a gun tried to carjack the man’s sedan and fired at least one shot during the incident, according to police.

However, the would-be victim was also armed and fired back — hitting the teenage suspect, Raleigh police said.

The teen who was shot was taken to WakeMed for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, a Raleigh officer said. The would-be victim in the carjacking attempt was not injured.

After the shooting, several Raleigh police officers were in the Red Roof Inn parking lot, part of which was closed off by crime scene tape.

Arrow Road, which is parallel to Blue Ridge Road, is the closest street beside I-440 on the southern side of Glenwood Avenue.

Police said more information, including possible charges, would be released Monday.
