The main building at Uncle Eddy’s Frozen Custard and Mini Golf at 46878 N.C. Highway 12 in Buxton was severely damaged by a fire that occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, April 12.

The Buxton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 12:13 a.m. on Friday, and Hatteras and Frisco Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as the Dare County Sheriff’s Office and Dare County EMS, also responded to the scene.

Firefighters were able to knock the bulk of the fire down quickly, and the fire was brought under control in approximately 45 minutes, according to Deputy Chief Jeffrey Del Monte of the Buxton VFD.

Crews stayed on the scene, and spent the next two hours overhauling hot spots throughout the structure.

Despite wind gusts over 30 mph, there was no damage to any neighboring structures, and no injuries were reported.

According to Dare County Tax Records, the building was built in 1960 and is approximately 1,762 square feet in area.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is being investigated by the Dare County Fire Marshal’s office.
