NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for multiple carjackings and use of a firearm while committing the carjackings.
Court documents show that on Nov. 3 2020, Bryant Marcus Wilkerson, 30, approached a driver of a vehicle, in Chesapeake, and told the driver to get out or he would shoot.
The driver attempted to close the door, but Wilkerson blocked the door with his body and once again threaten to shoot the driver if he didn’t get out of the vehicle.
Then, Wilkerson pulled out a gun and slapped the driver in the face with it. At that point, the driver got out of the vehicle and Wilkerson jumped in and drove away. The abandoned vehicle was found the next day.
About a week later on Nov. 9, 2020 Wilkerson approached another driver in Currituck N.C. Wilkerson opened the passenger and pointed a gun at the driver as he demanded driver out of the vehicle.
The driver got out, but Wilkerson was unable to start the car because the driver still had the key fob. According to court documents, Wilkerson jumped into an empty vehicle with the engine running and took off.
Police attempted to stop Wilkerson, but he led them on a high-speed chase as he drove into oncoming traffic and ran other vehicles off the road.
Wilkerson then jumped out of the vehicle and ran away on foot before jumped on the hood of another vehicle, pulled out his gun and demanded the driver to get out. Seconds later, Wilkerson fired a shot into the dash and turned the gun on the driver again.
After the driver got out of the vehicle, Wilkerson drove it away. Another high-speed chase ensued, this time at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour while driving in the wrong direction on the expressway.
Law enforcement officers were able to flatten Wilkerson’s tires using spike strips, which forced the vehicle to stop. Wilkerson ran away on foot again, robbed another person, and broke into another locked vehicle. Officers found Wilkerson hiding in the vehicle with a gun and took him into custody.
