Another rocket launch from Florida’s Space Coast was visible over the Outer Banks on Tuesday evening.
The exhaust plume from the second stage of a Falcon 9 rocket was visible about three minutes after liftoff from Kennedy Space Center as it passed off the coast of North Carolina.
Launches from Florida that travel on a northeast trajectory and take place just after sunset or before sunrise have the best chance of being spotted from North Carolina.
The exhaust of the rockets can appear like a large squid, thanks to the sun still shining in the upper atmosphere that lights up the plume.
Some launches from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility on the Virginia Eastern Shore are visible from coastal sections of North Carolina, even during daylight hours.
The SpaceX rocket that lifted off Tuesday was carrying a pair of WorldView Legion satellites on behalf of Maxar Intelligence, and were launched into a mid-inclination Earth orbit, according to SpaceflightNow.com
