The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed the U.S. Highway 158/U.S. 301 bridge over the Roanoke River near Weldon due to extensive structural damage from a water main leak.
The bridge, locally known as the “Overwash Bridge”, needs structural repairs that will require a week or two worth of work before it can be reopened to traffic.
During the closure, traffic headed north on U.S. 301 and east on U.S. 158 should use Interstate 95 north from Exit 173 to Exit 176. Traffic headed south on U.S. 301 and west on U.S. 158 should use I-95 south from Exit 176 to Exit 173.
Officials urge motorists to drive safely, remain alert and follow all posted traffic rules during this temporary bridge closure.
