The Dare County Board of Commissioners will meet Monday with a full agenda that includes budget adjustment actions, a presentation from Dare Early College, and several year-end procedural items.
Commissioners are expected to consider multiple budget amendments, including a $5 million appropriation for debris collection.
According to the meeting agenda packet, the funding would ensure the county can meet debris-removal needs in the future and cover outstanding contract work tied to the collection of debris from this fall’s house collapses in Buxton.
One of the meeting’s featured presentations will come from Dare Early College Principal Kassie Mount, who is set to brief commissioners on the school’s progress and upcoming initiatives.
As part of that update, Mount is expected to share details about the process for selecting the school’s mascot with “Mariners” the preferred choice.
Another budget amendment allocates $976,996 to fund Fiscal Year 2026 debt service for the Dare Early College’s construction bonds.
The board will also review the proposed 2026 meeting schedule and vote on a consent agenda that includes minutes approval, a land-transfer tax refund, a flood-resiliency grant budget action, a designated-agent form, a utility easement for Dare County Early College, a resolution on real-property sales, and a services agreement with County Tax Services, Inc.
Monday’s agenda also includes annual organizational items such as election of the board’s chair and vice chair, recognition of employee service milestones, and presentation of Employee of the Month awards.
Public comments will be accepted both in Manteo and via the video link at the Fessenden Center Annex in Buxton.
The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Dare County Administration Building.
