Dare County, in partnership with Current TV, has released a new video highlighting the unincorporated community of Rodanthe, a hidden gem nestled along the pristine shores of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore at the northern end of Hatteras Island—a place where land, water and history converge.
The video is the latest installment in the “Discover Hidden Dare” series that is designed to highlight various services, amenities, attractions and recreational opportunities that are offered within the various unincorporated areas of Dare County.
Discover Hidden Dare: Rodanthe takes viewers on a journey into one of the most scenic and storied villages of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, exploring the beauty of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and Outer Banks National Scenic Byway—and diving into the village’s remarkable maritime legacy at the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, which has long stood as a beacon of heroism along the Graveyard of the Atlantic.
From windswept beaches perfect for beachcombing and wildlife watching to soundside waters that beckon kiteboarders and kayakers, Rodanthe offers a unique combination of both adventure and tranquility to residents and visitors alike.

Discover Hidden Dare: Rodanthe is the fourth installment in Dare County and Current TV’s collaborative and ongoing Discover Hidden Dare video series. Three additional videos highlighting specific unincorporated areas of Dare County have been released over the past several months.
The most recent video to be released in this series features Colington Island, an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise that is home to one of the largest year-round populations in Dare County and well-known for its deep-rooted crabbing and commercial fishing heritage that dates back several centuries.
The first video to be released in the series features Manns Harbor—a small community tucked between the shores of the Croatan Sound and the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge on the Dare County mainland—and the second video showcases Hatteras Village, which is located at the southernmost end of Hatteras Island and bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico Sound. All three previously released Discover Hidden Dare videos are currently available for viewing on Dare County’s YouTube channel (YouTube.com/DareCounty), as well as on demand at CurrentTV.org.
