Dare County has announced that its debris removal contractor, Dupon, will conduct an additional storm debris collection in Buxton on Monday, November 17, following the collapse of five oceanfront homes during Tuesday’s coastal storm.

The decision marks an expansion of cleaanup efforts initially thought to be complete after Dupon’s previous operation last week. County officials said the scale of debris generated by this week’s collapses created “an unprecedented situation” that threatens both environmental and public safety, prompting the new response.

Property owners in the affected area are asked to move all storm-related debris to the designated right-of-way along Old Lighthouse Road by Sunday, November 16, to allow for safe and efficient collection. Debris should be placed on the east side right-of-way where possible and ahead of collection crews working through the area.

Officials also reminded residents that once the county’s contractor has completed clearing an area, no additional debris should be placed at those locations.
