On July 25, 2025, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Deputies from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shoplifting in the Hatteras area. During the investigation, deputies developed probable cause to review surveillance footage and execute a search of the suspect. 

Autumn L. Smith, F/34, from Hatteras, NC, was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana, (M) Shoplifting Concealment Goods, and (M) Misdemeanor Larceny.

Ms. Smith was issued a $7,500 secured bond.
