The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum will host a special holiday celebration on Saturday, Dec. 13, offering an afternoon of activities that coincides with the annual Hatteras Village Christmas Parade.
The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. and includes live music, refreshments, ornament-making, a letter-writing station for Santa, and full access to the museum’s recently renovated exhibits.
The museum, located near the Hatteras ferry docks, focuses on the shipwrecks, maritime rescues, and wartime events that shaped the Outer Banks. After closing for an extensive redesign in 2022, it reopened in 2024 with new interactive displays, updated galleries, and strengthened infrastructure intended to better protect exhibits and improve visitor experience.
Saturday’s holiday event is scheduled around the Hatteras Village Christmas Parade, which begins at 2 p.m. The parade awards presentation will take place at the museum immediately afterward, bringing participants and spectators directly into the building for the remainder of the celebration.
Throughout the afternoon, attendees can tour the remodeled galleries, participate in craft activities, and enter a raffle for an original wood duck decoy carved by local artisan Sam Green.
Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. For more information on the museum, visit https://graveyardoftheatlantic.com/.
