A Heat Advisory continues on Sunday, July 27, and excessive heat and humidity are expected to continue for the next few days, according to an update from the National Weather Service (NWS).

On Saturday, Hatteras reached 94 degrees, which broke the area’s former July 26 record of 93 degrees, set in 1949.

Heat indices of approximately 105-110 degrees are expected on Sunday, with actual temperatures hovering in the 80s and low 90s

The highest risk of excessive heat is from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“Another hot and humid day is in store,” stated the NWS Newport/Morehead City Office. “Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, which will bring temporary relief from the heat. These storms will be capable of producing gusty winds and localized flooding.”
