The Island Free Press is excited to announce the upcoming launch of its sister site, Shop the OBX, an innovative online marketplace dedicated to the Outer Banks. This new platform will give local vendors a simple, secure way to showcase and sell their products year-round, while offering shoppers an easy way to support small coastal businesses they know and love.
Shop the OBX will serve as a virtual marketplace where artisans, retailers, and creators from across the Outer Banks can reach customers near and far. The site is designed to be both user-friendly and visually engaging, providing a seamless experience for shoppers and a straightforward setup for vendors of all technical levels.
“Our goal is to create a one-stop online destination for everything Outer Banks,” said Donna Barnett of the Island Free Press. “Shop the OBX connects the vibrant local business community with the readers and visitors who already love our region. It’s a natural extension of what we do—celebrating the people, creativity, and spirit that make the OBX special.”
Shop the OBX will be prominently featured on the Island Free Press homepage, ensuring strong visibility among the publication’s dedicated audience of residents, visitors, and Outer Banks enthusiasts. Vendors who participate will be able to customize their storefronts, upload products and photos, and manage sales with ease.
To help local businesses get started, charter vendors will enjoy waived membership fees for the first year. The Island Free Press team is also offering one-on-one support to help merchants set up and maintain their online shops.
