My father left The Army Air Corp soon after the end of World War II. I was twelve when he rejoined The Air Force as a civilian in 1957. His (and our family’s) first assignment was to Rhein-Main Air Force Base about twelve miles from Frankfurt am Main (or Frankfurt), Germany. Our family was housed “on the economy” in the Village of Buchschlag, five miles from Rhein-Main. My friends during the school day were Americans. My friends when I got home were German. Of course, my German friends taught me what to say when they sent me
