The National Weather Service (NWS) recently announced two upcoming Hurricane Community Forums on the Outer Banks, which include a Rodanthe forum on August 14.

  • An August 14 forum will be held at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building at 1:00 p.m. at 23646 North Carolina Highway 12 in Rodanthe. Register Now to attend the forum.
  • An August 14 forum will also be held at the Coastal Studies Institute at 6:00 p.m. at 850 NC-345 in Wanchese. Register Now to attend the forum.

The free public discussions about hurricane preparedness include a presentation from a meteorologist on hurricanes and their impacts on eastern North Carolina, the most frequently impacted stretch of coastline in the country when it comes to hurricanes, according to the NWS.

The forums will cover why the public should never focus on just the category of the storm, and will also discuss all of the impacts any tropical cyclone can bring.

“We will also cover the hurricane outlook for the year while emphasizing that it only takes one storm to make an impact on your life,” stated the NWS Morehead/City office in an online announcement. “At the end, you will be able to ask any questions you may have.”

A recording of the forum will also be posted afterwards on the NWS’ social media channels.
