ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — A man is recovering in the hospital, and police have apprehended a person who barricaded themselves inside an apartment at the scene of a shooting.
According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers reported to the shooting around 1 a.m. Thursday on the 300 block of Baber Court at the Rolling Meadows apartment complex.
Upon arrival, they found a 23-year-old man with gunshot wound injuries. Officers said the man was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.
Officers said a person barricaded themselves in an apartment complex, prompting a larger police presence and a shelter-in-place order for residents in the area. The Nash County Public School District also had to reroute buses to avoid the area.
CBS 17 was on the scene where officers had most of the apartment complex surrounded and crowds were forming outside.
The standoff between police and the barricaded subject lasted for over 7 hours.
“At this time, we cannot confirm whether this person is the shooter,” officers said in a social media post around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Detectives are still actively investigating the apartment complex. Crime tape was still up and surrounding certain apartment buildings for their investigation.
