The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NC DOT) recently recognized the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association for its 25-year commitment to the Adopt-a-Highway program. The commemorative plaque celebrates its “public stewardship and commitment to protecting North Carolina’s natural beauty.”
The Civic Association helps clean nearly five miles of NC Highway 12 across the island’s three northern villages. Given the scale of this effort, the highway is divided into over 20 sections, each cared for by dedicated volunteers. Over the decades, countless teams have stepped up to remove litter and debris, keeping our roads clean and scenic.
While the Association organizes regular group cleanups, they deeply appreciate the ongoing contributions of residents, visitors, homeowners, and businesses who help “Keep it Clean!” all year long.
Our next cleanup is this month. Interested in volunteering for Adopt-a-Highway? Reach out to rwscivicassociation@gmail.com or check in at the Association’s Annual Meeting on October 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the RWS Community Building.
Thanks to everyone who has made this effort possible. Here’s to another 25 years of community pride!
