The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site and Museum in Rodanthe will wrap up its 2025 season with a festive celebration on Friday, Nov. 28, highlighted by a special visit from Santa Claus.

Santa is scheduled to arrive between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on the back of a Chicamacomico Banks Volunteer Fire Department truck, greeting families and children as the historic site marks its final open day of the year. The afternoon will include cookies, drinks, and a major sale at the museum gift shop—giving visitors a chance to enjoy a little stress-free Black Friday shopping while supporting the historic property.

All donations collected during the event will benefit the Elvin Hooper Scholarship Fund, which supports local students and is named in honor of longtime community advocate Elvin Hooper.

Located at 23645 N.C. Highway 12 in Rodanthe, the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station is one of the seven original U.S. Life-Saving Service stations built in North Carolina and is the only one that still operates as a museum. Established in 1874, the site preserves the history of the early lifesavers—precursors to today’s U.S. Coast Guard—who conducted daring rescues along one of the most treacherous stretches of the Atlantic coastline.

The event marks the close of another active season for the museum, which features restored 1874 and 1911 station buildings, summertime lifesaving drills, and exhibits detailing more than a century of maritime history.
