CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – A chase in Currituck County ended with the arrest of a Virginia Beach man.
Dustin Wheeler, 36, fled from a traffic stop attempt on Aug. 24, according to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy tried to initiate the traffic stop after noticing Wheeler speeding on his motorcycle, the sheriff’s office said.
The chase ended when Wheeler crashed his motorcycle and attempted to escape on foot, but was quickly apprehended.
Wheeler faces multiple charges, including a felony charge of fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. He is also charged with several misdemeanors, such as speeding, reckless driving, and displaying a fictitious registration plate.
Additional charges against Wheeler include failure to heed emergency lights or siren, injury to personal property, improper use of a traffic lane, lane change signal violation, failure to carry a vehicle registration card, driving the wrong way, no motorcycle endorsement, and failure to register a motor vehicle.

Wheeler was being held at the Currituck County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond. His motorcycle was seized under North Carolina’s ‘Run and Done’ law, which allows for the confiscation of vehicles used in the commission of certain offenses.
