A Dare County Water Department project to cover a 700-foot section of waterline with fill material near Haulover Sound Access will result in intermittent travel delays on Sept. 3-4, according to an update from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CHNS).

N.C. Highway 12 will be closed for approximately five minutes each time a truck arrives to offload fill material near the waterline, which is expected to occur every 30-to-60 minutes on both dates.

The first truck is scheduled to arrive around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

A section of beach will be closed to the north of CHNS’ soundside off-road vehicle ramp 59 during the project period, due to the staging of heavy equipment and work at the project site. This waterline project is unrelated to impacts from Hurricane Erin.
