The North Carolina Coastal Habitat Protection Plan Steering Committee is set to meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 25 by web conference to review and discuss public comment received on the Draft North Carolina Coastal Habitat Protection Plan 2021 Amendment.

The protection plan focuses on coastal fisheries through habitat protection and enhancement efforts adopted in 2004 by the North Carolina Marine Fisheries, Environmental Management and Coastal Resources Commissions. The plan is revised every five years to reflect changes in the status of habitat protection.

The public may join the meeting online at https://ncdenrits.webex.com/ncdenrits/j.php?MTID=mc1ebe0bdf9f120364d0d89eea764e2ff. Meeting number is 2433 369 8429 and the password is UpE2TaqMv38. Join by phone by calling 415-655-0003.

The plan is currently being updated and is in the public comment period that began Sept. 21. Comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. Oct. 21 on the Protection Plan and Appendix A, which is early public comment submitted by the North Carolina Coastal Federation and The Pew Charitable Trusts.

Submit comments online, by email to publiccomments@ncdenr.gov with “CHPP Comments” in the subject lineĀ or mail to CHPP 2021 Amendment Comments, P.O Box 769, Morehead City, NC 28557.
