Dare County announced Thanksgiving 2025 closures and trash collection schedule changes

All Dare County offices and facilities will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

These closures include the Dare County C&D Landfill in Manns Harbor, the Buxton Transfer Station and the Manteo Recycle Yard, which will reopen and operate with their regularly scheduled hours on Saturday, November 29.

All other Dare County offices and facilities will reopen with normal operating hours on Monday, December 1.

Dare County Public Works—which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County as well as the Town of Kitty Hawk—has announced a revised collection schedule for residential and commercial trash collection during the week of the Thanksgiving holiday.

There will be one residential pickup per area during the week of Thanksgiving, which runs from Monday, November 24, through Friday, November 28.

Residential trash collection for the week of Monday, November 24, through Friday, November 28, will be as follows:

Monday, November 24: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras. Regular trash collection will resume on Monday, December 1.
Tuesday, November 25: Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon. Regular trash collection will resume on Tuesday, December 2.
Wednesday, November 26: No residential trash collection.
Thursday, November 27: Closed – No trash collection. Happy Thanksgiving!
Friday, November 28: Closed – No trash collection.

Commercial dumpster collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk will take place on Monday, November 24, and Wednesday, November 26. Regular commercial trash collection will resume on Monday, December 1.

REMINDER: The Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk. Unincorporated Dare County does not include areas within a town’s limits. If you are located within one of the incorporated towns within Dare County, please contact your municipality for information regarding any trash collection schedule changes in your area.
