The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries is hosting in January a public hearing on three proposed shellfish leases in Pender County.

The hearing is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 13, 2022.

  • Topsail Sound Shellfish, LLC, Ronald Sheffield, agent, has applied for a 1.29-acre shellfish bottom and water column lease in Seaside Areas near Topsail Sound.​
  • Soundside Oyster Farms, LLC, Thomas Cannon, agent, has applied for a 0.75-acre shellfish bottom lease in Banks Channel.
  • Coastal Roots Oyster Company, LLC, David Roughton, agent, has applied for a 1.09-acre shellfish bottom and water column lease in Seaside Areas near Green Channel.​ 

The public can listen to the hearing online or by telephone. To facilitate comments, the division is asking those who wish to speak during the meeting to register online by 4 p.m. Jan. 12, 2022.

The public can comment on the proposed shellfish leases by submitting written comments until 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14 and may be through a form online or be mailed to the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, Shellfish Leases, P.O. Box 769, Morehead City, NC 28557.
